This two-part collection of poems reduces the notion of artistic notation that Raven had in his book Do Not Add Up. Whereas the meaningful sections in Do Not Add Up are paragraphs the meaningful sections in Notationing and Notestalk are single sentences and even merely clauses. The collection asks the questions: At what point do our notes for art become art? When are our private notes art? and To what extent is all art just the series of traces that our growth leaves behind?
